Description
Baryta Carb 3X
Introduction: Barium was isolated by Davy as an amalgam in 1808 and in pure state by another
chemist Guntz in 1901. It is a white lustrous metal having sp. gr. of 3.78. It rapidly oxidizes in
moist air. Barium decomposes water at the ordinary temperature. It also decomposes acid
producing salts. Fortunately, it was brought to homoeopathic literature by Hahnemann; it is
effective in dwarfism, glandular and brain affections. It is a very long and deep acting remedy.
Synonym: Barium carbonate. Formula- BaCO3.
Source: It is a white, odourless, tasteless powder almost insoluble in water.

Particulars:
1. Baryta carb baby :
Remedy looks towards the development of young individuals. Hence the main feature that we
find, is ‘dwarfishness’. Body is dwarf both mentally and physically, Growth is stunted, looks
fatty with swollen abdomen and puffed face. The patient is extremely chilly and always feels
cold to touch and also catches cold easily. Baby is mentally deficient and idiotic. Child cannot
be tought and is unable to learn because be cannot remember. Even the body cannot learn the art
of learning to walk although there are pretty good limbs. The baby does not want to play but sits
in a corner of the room or street either doing nothing or foolish things like throwing stones at
strangers. These babies become serious at laughable matters and laugh at serious matters.
Saliva runs down the mouth during sleep. Such children always have glandular affections in the
form of glandular enlargement especially enlarged tonsils, caused by suppressed foot sweat,
Consequently tonsillitis is a constant trouble associated with chronic cold and cough.
Literary speaking every cold settles in throat. Tonsils have a tendency to suppurate.
Digestion of baby is so weak that he may often suffer from diarrhoea vomiting and constipation.
2. In brain affections:
Patient complains of headache, pressure sensation in the brain, feeling of looseness in the brain
as if the brain moves from side to side, a sensation of motion in the brain when moving the head
or from sudden jar.
It seems as if the brain moves to and fro. Pressing headache amel. by fresh air and agg. from heat
which is opposite to the general state. Hot weather will cause blood to mount to the brain
resulting into stupor or apoplexy.
3. In glandular affections :
Lymphatic glands all over the body are affected. The glands all over the body are enlarged and
indurated, the glands of neck, groin and abdomen are the main glands to be affected. There is
emaciation and gradual dwindling of the people who have once been fat and well nourished.
Swelling and induration of glands with inflammation and infiltration are marked. The glands
become harder and harder. Ulcers become indurated at their base. Tonsils are enlarged and
indurated to cause quinsy. There is no suppuration but infiltration is more noticed due to taking
cold and becoming cold. The enlarged tonsils will be inflammed, red, swollen and painful. The
enlargement is so great that there will be a sensation of plugging in throat, which causes
difficulty in swallowing. The bolous of food goes a little way and then arises spasms and the
patient gags and chokes. Due to the enlarged tonsils there is change in the voice with much
burning and irritation in throat. These things cause a constant choking and spasmodic
constriction in the throat which extends to the oesophagus so that there arises trouble in eating
and drinking.
1. Appearance:
Patients are dwarfish in appearance; mentally deficient and physically weak and short. Children
present a picture of typical cretinism, having short stature, swollen abdomen, puffy face,
enlarged glands thick lips and idiotic appearance. Old people are weak, fatty but childish in
behaviour.
