Arsenic Alb 3X
Introduction: It is one of the most frequently used remedy in both acute and chronic diseases. It
is a short acting medicine and not very deep in its action, therefore when it has relieved the acute
symptoms a complementary or miasmatic remedy should be given to cure the sick individual.
Synonym: White oxide of Arsenic, Arsenious Oxide, Arsenious Acid,
Formula: As2O3
Source: It is a chemical compound of arsenic and oxygen.
Preparation: The drug is triturated with sugar of milk.
Proved by Hahnemann
Constitution:
1. Appearance : Lean, thin, debilitated, hippocratic face, dirty and waxy look of the skin.
2. Temperament : Fastidious.
3. Miasms : Mixed miasmatic remedy.
4. Diathesis : Scrofulous diathesis.
Guiding symptoms/Indications:
1. Burning pains : the affected parts burn, as if hot coals were applied to them (Anthr.) amel. by
heat, hot drinks, hot application.
2. Burning thirst without special desire to drink, the stomach does not seem to tolerate, because it
can not assimilate.
Cold water lies like a stone in the stomach; it is wanted but he cannot or dare not drink it.
3. Cannot bear the smell or sight of food (Colch., Sep.).
Great thirst for cold water, drinks often, but little at a time; eats seldom, but much.
4. Diarrhoea; after eating or drinking; stool scanty, dark coloured, offensive, followed by great
prostration.
5. Haemorrhoids : with stretching pain when walking or sitting, not at stool, preventing sitting or
sleep; burning pain amel. by heat, fissures make voiding urine difficult.
6. Breathing; asthmatic, must sit or bend forward; springs out of bed at night especially after
twelve o’clock, unable to lie down for fear of suffocation, attacks like croup instead of the usual
urticaria.
7. Symptoms return annually (Carb. veg., Lach., Sulph., Thuja. o.).
8. Skin; dry, scaly, cold, blue, wrinkled, with cold clammy perspieation; like parchment.
Particulars:
Female:
– Menses too frequent.
– Leucorrhoea profuse, corrosive.
– Menorrhagia with black blood.
– Sexual desire increased at menses.
Child:
– Capricious; wants to be carried from father to mother – carried fast.
– Anxiety at night.
– Biting nails.
– Learns with difficulty – concentration difficult.
Stomach: Hiccough, during the hour when fever ought to come.
Fever: Yellow-fever (prophylactic).
Respiration: Asthma – caused by suppressed eruptions, measles etc. Asthmatic respiration –
unable to lie down for fear of suffocation. Must sit up bent.
Chest: Pleurisy. Homoeopathic trocar causes absorption of pleuritic effusion (to remove effusion
: Apis, Sulph). Cardiac symptoms : Sudden and complete. Sinking of strength – agg. at night, esp.
after midnight. Heart trouble due to abuse of tobacco. Pain-Right lung, acute, sharp, fixed or
darting pain in apex and upper third of right lung (left apex : Tub.). Pain Sudden attacks;
inflammation; weakness; convulsions; tetanus – especially at NIGHT.
Skin: dry, scaly, unhealthy, like parchment. Urticaria. Hives after eating fish. Ulcers.
Gangrenous ulcers amel. by hot applications.
Dreams: of accidents cats, of the dead, difficulties; darkness, fire; frightful; black ghost; spiders;
of misfortune.
Dose and administration: 1 tab 3 to 4 times daily for adult. ½ tab for 3 to 4 times daily
children.
Side effects: No significant side effect has been observed in proper dosage
Contraindication: There is no known contraindication.
